On March 5, 2026, the Dhaka University Research Society (DURS) organized a special Iftar program for street children to mark the holy month of Ramadan. Beyond sharing a meal, this initiative was driven by a simple yet powerful belief: we do not need grand platforms to create change-we simply need to act within our current capacity, with whatever is in our hands today.

Amidst our academic and personal routines, it is easy to overlook the children who navigate life without regular meals, proper shelter, or access to education. Their bright smiles remind us of immense potential that often remains hidden under the weight of poverty. While a single evening cannot solve systemic hardship, stepping forward within our own stage allows us to bring genuine warmth, dignity, and compassion to those who need it most.

Our event was graced by Dr. Fatima Regina Iqbal (Chairperson, Department of Sociology, University of Dhaka) and Md. Zohir Rayhan (Lecturer, Department of Finance), who appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to continue driving community-focused endeavors.

Led alongside DURS President Humayra Anjir, this program was brought to life through the dedicated execution of Treasurer Ahsan Ullah and Career Development Secretary Tabassum Tamanna, who served as event coordinators.

We extend our deep gratitude to our executive committee members-Ashrafi Jannat Promi, Most. Farjana Rahman, Khadija Akter Mou, Most. Sadia Islam, Md. Asif Mehmud Ababil, Saker Hossain Efaj, Mahmiya Alam Santa, Shamima Tahera, Md. Sami, and Adrita Maliyat-as well as our passionate volunteers. Their selfless dedication made this initiative truly meaningful.

Serving as General Secretary of DURS, moments like these reinforce that leadership extends far beyond administration and academic research. True purpose lies in using our collective position-however small it may feel-to shed light and foster human connections where they matter most.
